Independent Report
generalThis is a perfect hotel for peaceful contemplation and gentle country pursuits.Surrounded by wonderful landscape and valleys, there is a nearby golf course and the market town of Kendal and Windermere village are only a brief scenic drive away. Guests are also free to use the sister hotel Low Wood Leisure Club at any time, this is a 10 minute drive away. (GW 04/2008)
lobbyThe lobby is quite small but gives a very good impression of the hotel. It is full of character and also has a traditional farmhouse range.
exteriorThis is a former Coaching Inn and takes its name historically for being close to the site where the local legend Sir Richard de Gilpin bravely fought and killed the last wild boar.
restaurantThe hotel restaurant has character in abundance with beams and a natural rock outcrop - it is most attractive. It delivers a delectable, hearty and modern English menu championing a whole host of local produce and seasonal ingredients and complimented by an extensive wine list.
roomsA selection of cosy and comfortable single, twin and suites are available. The rooms vary in size, and are all ensuite with television, tea and coffee making facilities, direct dial telephone plus the added extras of fresh flowers and sweets. The decor uses warm soft colours that compliment the matching bedspreads and curtains.
locationTucked away in the ancient beauty and secluded Gilpin Valley in 72 acres of it's own private woodland, the hotel is a matter of minutes away from Windermere village and nearby Bowness Bay.
