This is a super product: The view that confronts you upon entering the hotel literally takes your breath away. Regardless of the season, the vista is always mesmerising. The hotel also offers a lakeside private beach and jetty, tea garden, indoor pool, and sauna as well as ample free parking. Wi-Fi has been newly added in the lounge areas. (GW 03/2009)
lobby
The hotel has had extensive refurbishment and has been brought up to a very high standard. The reception desk is small, although there is a large seating area, with large comfortable sofas and chairs, with open log fires, and rich red wallpaper. There are large panoramic windows giving excellent views over the lake.
exterior
When you arrive at the hotel you'd be forgiven for thinking this was a very ordinary property. It is not until you walk inside, that you realise this is a very special place. The building is traditional in style.
restaurant
Dining is an event to savour. The Burlington's Restaurant is an inviting yet grand room with wonderful lake views coupled with enchanting food. It has held 2 AA Rosettes for 8 years and the 5 Course Gourmet menu features a fusion of French and English dishes showcasing the best of Cumbrian produce. Alternatively, the Simple Taste Menu offers 3 courses with more traditional dishes with a modern twist. On Saturdays, the hotel provides a jazz quartet or a pianist - a lovely touch.
rooms
The rooms are of medium size and are in good condition. They are decorated in light fabrics and furnishings and dark woods. 52 of the 57 rooms enjoy breathtaking views out over the lake.
location
This hotel is situated fairly high up overlooking Lake Windermere and is an equal distance from both Bowness on Windermere and Newby Bridge further south on the A592. Windermere station is a 15-minute taxi ride away.
