This hotel is situated in the heart of the town centre and is only 2 miles from the A 19 with very easy access to Newcastle Upon Tyne, York and the North Yorkshire moors. Perfect for Durham Airport, just 8 miles away.
rooms
All 125 ensuite rooms have satellite tv, direct dial telephone, tea and coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board and trouser press. The rooms are medium in size and in good condition with pastel shades and light wooden furnishings. The rooms are of good standard if not a little tired.
restaurant
The portcullis restaurant is well-known locally and offers both a la carte and table d'hote menus. The matchmaker brasserie is less formal and is large, airy room with mahogany wood panelling and furniture.
general
The hotel also has a luxurious leisure club with swimming pool, Spa pool, sauna, steam room, mini-gym and sunbeds and lounge. This is an excellent hotel and has particularly good facilities. Local attractions include the Captain Cook monument, Beamish open air museum and Durham. KB 01/07
