Independent Report
locationThis Pousada has a perfect location on the cliff top overlooking the Sagres fort and a little further up the Cape St Vincent lighthouse.
roomsUpdated spacious rooms. Carpeted floors, soft colours on the walls and dark wood furniture, the bed covers match the curtains and give a peaceful look.
restaurantCulinary delights of the region are pescada grelhada com molho de manteiga(grilled butterhake), posat de cherne (similar to halibut), solha a grenoblesa (plaice), lingua do grelhado (grilled sole) and espardate no forno (baked swordfish). The wine list is also extensive.
exteriorThis is a purpose built lighthouse and was one of the early Pousadas and since its erection in 1960 it has been considerably improved and upgraded. There is a new bar and its theme is strictly maritime. Influenced by the major sea battles which took place on the coast of Sagres centuries ago. The whole Pousada is kept immaculate.
lobbyThe portrait of Prince Henry "the navigator" looks down onto the reception as long as many good naval prints.
generalOverlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the Pousada is located in the village of Sagres, in the Algarve region. This village has an important historical and maritime significance, from where, 500 years ago, Prince D. Henrique's caravels left to look for new countries. The discovery of the cultural authenticity of the area and the possibility of walking on desert beaches, allow you to forget about the real world. From the fishing village of Sagres come the excellent fish and seafood that can be quietly savoured at the Pousada, a contrast to the more usual cosmopolitan bustle of the Algarve coast. DDS 08/08
