Independent Report
locationThe hotel is centrally located on Beaumont Street which is less than 10 minutes walk to the train station and city centre.
roomsThe rooms are situated at the front of the hotel and have good views of Oxford. The bedrooms are very elegant and furbished in rich fabrics with all facilities. They are of an excellent decor and standard and are of a medium size. All rooms have the facilities that you would expect of a 5 star hotel.
restaurantThe restaurant at the Hotel has recently just won its second AA rosette for its cuisine and features contemporary menus in an unrivalled setting with fabulous views of the city. If a more relaxed atmosphere is desired for a quiet drink then the Morse Bar provides a peaceful environment in which you can relax and unwind.
exteriorIt is traditional. The hotel was built in 1864 and is a prime example of neo-gothic architecture.
lobbyThe reception area is medium in size and is panelled in dark wood. There is a large sweeping staircase. The public areas are very grand.
generalYou might recognise this lovely hotel as it was often used to file both Inspector Morse and it was a firm favourite with the cast and crew of Inspector Lewis (the follow on programme from Inspector Morse) which filmed at the hotel in 2005. The newly opened 'The SPA at The Randolph' is built in the old cellar of the hotel with vaulted ceilings, luxury Italian tiling and fabrics plus relaxing candle light that creates a luxurious atmosphere unlike any other in city. Awared it's 5 stars in March 2007, this is Oxford's finest hotel. (09/08 db)
