The hotel derives its name from the Irish 'ard oilean' (high island), a picturesque island on nearby Lough Corrib. It stands in extensive grounds convenient to the city and its seaside suburb, Salthill. The location is also convenient to the main trunk routes from all major cities, airports and ferry ports. Galway Airport is 15 minutes away.

The bedrooms have been refurbished to a very high standard and combine modern amenities with stylish and elegant decor. All rooms are en suite and are medium in size. Many have views over the gardens.

The hotel dining room has earned a reputation for good food and includes a number of specialities that have earned the chef numerous awards.

This is an extremely attractive traditional hotel set in exquisite gardens. The building is white with wooden frames around the windows.
