Independent Report
generalThe original maternity hospital was dedicated to Sir James Young Simpson, discoverer of Chloroform. This hostorical slant on the property and its extremely homely feel, make it a much sought after property in central Edinburgh. (BL 05/2006)
lobbyThe lobby is bright and lightly furnished and medium-sized. There is a pleasant seating area and a warm and welcoming feel to the hotel. Modern and tastefully decorated.
exteriorThe hotel was once the Royal Maternity Hospital. Although the hospital has ceased to operate since the 1950s the building still has an imposing grandeur in the traditional Scottish baronial style.
restaurantSimpsons restaurant is located on the ground floor to the right side of the lobby. There is also a pleasant residents bar, which is small, but warm and welcoming. The restaurant serves innovative, stylish and delicious dishes made from Scottish ingredients in pleasant, informal surroundings.
roomsThe rooms vary in size from medium to large, but all are spacious and furnished in a traditional and homely style, with pleasant pink and blue colurs prominent. The rooms are in very good condition, as are the bathrooms. There is a very good choice of satellite channels available in each room, as well as modem points.
locationA couple of minutes walk from Grassmarket and within easy reach of both Edinburgh Castle and Princes Street, this is an excellent central location.
