Independent Report
locationThis hotel is located close to the Museumplein with its many famous museums, and is next to the Van Baerlestraat with its restaurants, cafes and shops. It is also close to the Vondel Park and the Leidseplein with its many bars and the famous Holland Casino.
roomsThe bedrooms are all medium to large and in excellent condition. This hotel offers some of the best accommodation in Amsterdam, with its trendy dark interiors, much attention to detail, and some rooms with beams, some split level and with its immaculately designed bathrooms.
restaurantThe hotel restaurant is one of the most renowned throughout Amsterdam. The hotel itself used to be a school and the restaurant is housed in the former school gym and is large and bright with an open kitchen and serves predominantly Dutch/International cuisine. There is also a terrace where in the summer, drinks may be served as well as the trendy hotel bar which is very popular amongst the local Dutch inhabitants and offers an alternative atmosphere with plenty of low seating, as well as bar seating, fireplaces and music.
exteriorAs the name suggests, this building used to be a school and has been restored to its former glory which is very traditional in design with a small garden at the entrance with flames lining the pathway.
lobbyThe lobby is very attractive with exposed brick walls and a small seating area in the style of a private drawing room with many different materials on the walls, on the floor and in the seating arrangement. The reception area is quite small but very welcoming.
generalThis hotel is one of the newest in Amsterdam and is the talk of the town. Formerly a school, it has been lovingly restored to an exceptionally high standard and comes highly recommended. 050908JG
